Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal with goalkeeper Victor Valdes, which would see the former Barcelona keeper leave the club in the January transfer window.

He was originally signed as the replacement for David de Gea. The club expected the Spaniard to leave the Red Devils for Real Madrid. However, improved performances coupled with a sudden change in mind meant thatde Gea ended up staying at Old Trafford. Unable to provide in a first-team opportunities for Valdes, who had just recovered from a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury, manager Louis van Gaal has been involved in a war of words with the player.

Keen to avoid any confrontation, it is reported that United have agreed to release the player from his contract. Interestingly, Valdes signed a contract with United only a few months ago after having spent several weeks training with the club. Valdes has never played for any club other than Barcelona prior to his move to United. It is reported that several French clubs are interested in signing the player, who earns around £ 60,000 per week from his contract at United. Teams like Paris St Germain and Lyon are reportedly showing interest.

United are yet to confirm this news officially, but it is expected to be announced over the next few days. Despite having been at United for almost a year, Valdes has made only two appearances for the club. It is almost certain that he has played his last game for the club unless an extreme circumstance forces Van Gaal to require his services. Valdes spent 12 years at Barcelona making close to 400 appearances in the league. He has won every major honour from the la Liga to the Champions League. He is also a World Cup and European Championship winner with the Spanish national team.
