Middlesbrough had to settle with a goal-less draw against Leicester City but they managed to overcome Sheffield with a convincing 3-0 triumph.

Something to take into consideration from those matches is that Victor Valdes was not featured in any of those games which is a very surprising thing for a player that is consistently taking up the spotlight as the main shot-stopper of the Premier League club.

Victor Valdes is the first choice shot-stopper of Middlesbrough as he has already made 17 starts in the Premier League but considering his recent blunder and the low position of the club, it might be time for the Spanish player to start being dropped to the sidelines.

On December 26 of 2016, Middlesbrough faced off with Burnley in a match that resulted with Burnley just barely being able to edge out a victory and the only goal arrived after a mistake from Victor Valdes as he went all out in an attempt to grab a shot from Andre Grey but he failed to do it and the ball found it’s way into the net.

That was a huge blunder which ultimately led to Middlesbrough losing the entire match and even though it’s only 1 mistake out of all the matches that he has played, considering the fact that they have conceded 22 goals from their opening 20 Premier League matches of the season, it’s clear that something is wrong in the defensive back-line of Middlesbrough and some changes need to be made.

It seems like the manager of Middlesbrough, AitorKaranka is starting to notice this and he has dropped Victor Valdes from the 2 opening matches of 2017 that they have played, it remains uncertain if the Spanish player will be seeing more time on the bench or what will happen but things need to happen in order for Middlesbrough to start climbing spots in the Premier League and snatch a secure position above the relegation zone.

Victor Valdes is trying to revive his career with Middlesbrough

Ever since Victor Valdes ended his playing career with Barcelona on October of 2014, the Spanish shot-stopper has struggled to find a club where he can get consistent playing time and become a regular starter.

Injuries have been one of the factors that have seriously hampered the career of Victor Valdes as he has had to spend a significantly long period of time trying to get fit after having torn his anterior cruciate ligament which he picked up in Barcelona.

Victor Valdes played his final match as a player of Barcelona on March 26 of 2014 and he went on to join Manchester United, it’s with the training facilities of the Premier League club that Valdes is able to recover and get back to full fitness.

His time with Manchester United was cut short after the Spanish midfielder allegedly got into an issue with Louis van Gaal as he did not want to perform in a reserve match and his contract was eventually terminated.

Victor Valdes is now performing with the Premier League outfit Middlesbrough and he is actually a regular starter and he has been recently praised by the head coach Aitor Karanka who said that the Spanish shot-stopper is steadily performing better and the 43 year old tactican also revealed details concerning his relationship and situation with Victor Valdes as the manager said:

My relationship with Victor began when he was injured for the first time. His knee was operated on and I sent him a message, just like I did with Roberto Soldado. I saw myself in their situation, and I know that messages of this type help, so I dared to send it. And his response was positive. I’m happy to have him because the team needed leaders like him,”

“In a changing room you need that type of character. He has had to learn that we are not Barcelona, that Sergio Busquets is not there, that dead-ball situations are different, but he is improving a lot and he did very well against Arsenal.” Karanka said.

KARANKA HOPEFUL WITH VALDES

Victor Valdes has enjoyed a decent run this campaign at Middlesbrough, but Aitor Karanka says the former Barcelona first choice shot stopper can’t be compared to the player he once was in Spain.

However, Karanka says he will remain hopeful.

However, Karanka says he will remain hopeful.

Three-time UEFA Champions League winner and six-time La Liga champions agreed to a deal to join Middlesbrough this summer, becoming the club’s most decorated player ever. Valdes agreed to a two-year deal. So far, he has made three Premier League games so far. The Spaniard missed two matches due to a minor hamstring injury, but is set to appear in goal when Boro play Tottenham Hotspurs this weekend.

When asked about Valdes’ performance, Karanka said the goalkeeper is nowhere near his former level. “He’s done well. He’s an experienced player, but the main thing that everyone has to understand is that it’s not Victor Valdes at Barcelona. If he was at that level, then he wouldn’t be here. He would be at a top team in the world – not just in England.”

Karanka said he brought the former Camp Nou regular to Boro because of his character and experience. “I didn’t bring him in just because he was an amazing goalkeeper at Barcelona. I brought him in because he’s a strong character, he’s an experienced head in the dressing room, and he’s going to help us a lot. Even when he was injured, he was helping us – especially the younger, inexperienced players,” he added.

Karanka added that he hopes the club can help Valdes to his best. For the past two and half years, Valdes has not been playing. Karanka added that there were a lot of people trusting him at the club. Karanka said he liked Valdes’ character in the squad – especially his winning mentality.

Victor Valdes has recovered from his hamstring injury

Victor Valdes has recently recovered from a hamstring injury which had left him unable to play for almost 1 month and the Spanish shot-stopper made his return in Middlesbrough’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace which concluded in a 2-1 defeat for Middlesbrough as the recently promoted Premier League club suffered their 1rst defeat of the season.

The 34 year old Spanish goal-keeper is trying to get his career back on track after being dropped to the sidelines during his time spent at Old Trafford as a player of Manchester United which was back on January of 2015 until January of 2016.

This means that Valdes spent around 1 year with Manchester United but failed to make even 5 League appearances with the Premier League club.

The experienced player is now performing with Middlesbrough as he is attempting to get consistent playing time with the English club after having signed a 2 year long deal with the club that was recently promoted to the Premier League.

In the 2 Premier League matches that Victor Valdes has played so far with his new club, the results have been fairly underwhelming as Middlesbrough had to settle with a draw against Stoke City and a defeat against Crystal Palace.

It’s likely that these upcoming seasons of Victor Valdes might be his last few ones as a player in the Premier League. At the age of 34, the Spanish player has suffered a huge dip in his form and he is simply not the reliable performer that he used to be some time ago when playing with Barcelona and after his 2 year-long contract with Middlesbrough reaches it’s not very likely that he can get a deal extension unless he manages to start picking things up and performing at a very high level which he has not done so far.

VICTOR VALDES PICKS UP INJURY AGAIN

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has picked up an injury not long after appearing in action for newly promoted side Middlesbrough FC.

Barely a week after making his Premier League debut in the season’s curtain raiser against Stoke City, his injury had resurfaced. The 34-year old Spain international was ruled out of the team’s list when they played Sunderland as he had picked up a muscle injury during training. He is set to miss the matches against Fulham and West Brom as his hamstring injury continues to hinder him.

Valdes has made just 11 appearances since March 2014 as his struggles with injuries continue. The six time La Liga champion and three time Champions League winner’s form has dropped over the years, with the injuries worsening the situation. Ahead of the second round clash in the EFL against Fulham on Thursday, Aitor Karanka said Valdes would not be available. When Boro take on West Brom in the next round of Premier League games, Valdes remains a major doubt.

“He’s not available for tomorrow because muscle injuries sometimes fool you. On this occasion it was one of them – we didn’t think it was serious but for sure he won’t play tomorrow. I need to check 100%, but today I can’t say that he’ll play on Sunday. It’s his hamstring,” Karanka revealed.

Options exist in Brad Guzan, Tomas Mejias and Dimi Konstantopoulos. Karanka would just have to select the right choice to start at Craven Cottage. The manager added that Daniel Ayala, Fabio da Silva, and Jordan Rhodes are all likely to start the game in West London. After all the games played this week in the EFL second round, teams would square up against each other in their various league this weekend, with the new entrants into the Premier League not doing bad so far.

KARANKA SAYS VALDES AND NEGREDO ARE STILL TOP PLAYERS

Coach of newly promoted side Middlesbrough Aitor Karanka heaped praises on his new signings after their brilliant display in the opening game of the season.

Loanee from Spanish side Valencia, Negredo was on target when he scored the first goal of Middlesbrough after a seven year hiatus in the top flight league. Former Barcelona goal keeper Victor Valdes was in action in between the sticks for the freshly promoted club, earning the commendation of the coach.

“I called Victor when he had his knee injury. The same happened to me in Bilbao and I know how he was feeling. I called him again earlier in the summer and told him that before dismissing me, he should listen to me,” Karanka spoke of Valdes.

Boro were set for a victory until Xherdan Shaqiri scored a goal cancelling Negredo’s initial effort.
“It’s important for Negredo to score, as when we signed him I said that he needed to recover his confidence. A player who won the Premier League two or three years ago with Man City can’t forget to play – so for us, it’s an amazing signing. But we need to keep working with him, he scored the goal today but has to keep working as he knows that there’s not a player who is above the team,” Karanka spoke of Negredo to Middlesbrough Gazette after the game that ended 1-1.

As Valdes got a first team spot, Joe Hart seemed to have lost his at Manchester City as boss Pep Guardiola chose former second-ranked choice Willy Caballero ahead of him in the first game for City. Guardiola is still hoping to bring in a new first choice goal stopper to Etihad, but it seems Caballero would continue for now especially as the relationship between Hart and Guardiola appears strained.

HART DROPPED BY PEP

Former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola could make another goal keeper as his first choice since dropping Joe Hart from the position he has held for years – for club and country.

There are reports that Joe Hart fears his career at Manchester City might be over as he was overlooked when Man City began their 2016/2017 campaign against Sunderland. Daily Mail reports that Man City would listen to offers for the talented 29-year old goal stopper, but in the range of £20 million.

Joe Hart is the longest serving player in Etihad, having spent close to ten years. The report says that the player has accepted that the Spanish coach doesn’t value him as much. Everton has made a lot of changes this summer, and could be willing to make Hart their number one. There are a number of Premier League clubs that have been alerted to the situation. However, Hart is one of the highest paid goalkeepers in world football with his £135,000 weekly wage.

Hart still has three years to spend at the club based on his current deal. Reports say the club’s management is willing to allow Hart stay on but Guardiola has other plans. The Spaniard could bring in his preferred No 1 before the transfer window closes. Guardiola is known to prefer the keeper at his former club Marc-Andre ter Stegen as his replacement – currently playing at the Olympics for Germany (and worth a look if you ever bet on Olympic games). It would be difficult to get the player but options exist in Claudio Bravo,33, his teammate.

Sporting Lisbon’s Rui Patricio has been linked to the club, and he was impressive for Portugal at the Euro 2016.

Willy Caballero was in goal when City played Sunderland, and the Argentine is set to continue when City hosts Steaula Bucharest in Romania in the first leg of the Champions League play-off. Guardiola likes keepers that have good distribution skills with the feet, like former Barcelona goal keeper Victor Valdes, and Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich. Guardiola admitted that Hart was not happy about being dropped, and the relationship between both are said to be strained.

Manchester City are interested in the possibility of signing Victor Valdes

New rumours have surfaced claiming that Manchester City are interested in the possibility of signing Victor Valdes.

The Spanish goalkeeper played for their arch rivals Manchester United only recently before being released by the club. Valdes joined United as a replacement for David de Gea, who appeared to be on his way out at the start of last summer.

However,De Gea from the major U-turn by signing a new contract with United and this proved to be the end of Valdes at Old Trafford. He fell out with manager Louis van Gaal shortly afterwards and this led to his loan move.

Even though he has completed a successful loan spell, his United career record stands at just two games. City are going to managed by Pep Guardiola from next season and it seems that the former Barcelona manager is ready to be reunited with his former goalkeeper. Even if Valdes moves to City, he may not be the first choice option due to the presence of Joe Hart. However, the opposite could also happen since Guardiola is known to favour a goalkeeper with ball playing skills. Hart remains an excellent shot stopper but the former Bayern Munich manager may decide to place his faith on Valdes, who is excellent in this regard.

Valdes has been announced as one of the two players – alongside Nick Powell – to be released by the club at the end of the campaign. If he does play for City, it may be the biggest move between the two clubs since the days of Carlos Tevez. The Argentine striker was the last player to switch allegiance from the red half of Manchester to the blue half. He was greeted with a lot of support by City fans, who could give the same response to Victor Valdes.

Victor Valdes still has not given up hope of moving from Old Trafford in the summer

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes still has not given up hope of moving from Old Trafford in the summer.

This is despite the club parting company with manager Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman was responsible for bringing Valdes to Old Trafford, but the pair almost immediately fell out with each other.

Valdes is unhappy at being rushed back from a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury while van Gaal has complained that the former Barcelona goalkeeper has not been fit enough to even consider rehabilitation. After spending a short time away from United on a loan spell, Valdes returned to the club amidst uncertain future.

United have made it clear that they do not want to keep the player, who is approaching the end of his career. He has been indirectly told to look for a new club. The player has been negotiating with several clubs from across the world. However, he is thought to favour a move to Spanish outfit Espanyol. This would see him return to Barcelona, although it may mean playing for the archrivals of his former club. Valdes came through the ranks at Barcelona before going on to lift numerous trophies in a decade at the Camp Nou. It remains to be seen if he will want to alienate the Barcelona supporters by playing for their archrivals.

Valdes’ position at the club may not have changed even after United have appointed José Mourinho as the new manager. Mourinho knows Valdes from his time at Barcelona as a translator, but the former Barcelona goalkeeper was almost too young to be in the memory. It is highly unlikely that Valdes will get game time at Old Trafford since David de Gea has been the mainstay by a long distance. De Gea electing to stay at United has effectively ended the hopes of Valdes becoming a first-team regular.

VICTOR VALDES RETURNS TO ACTION AGAINST KV KORTRIJK

Ex-Barcelona goal keeper, Victor Valdes, played in the Jupilier Pro League Play-off II against fellow Belgian opponent KV Kortrijk.

The goal keeper, who is widely reported to be interested in a move back to the English Premier League, will leave current club Standard Liege in the summer when his current deal lapses.

The goal stopper played for Spanish giants from 2002/2003 season before leaving the club after the 2013/2014 season as he dropped in the pecking order. He made the move to English team, Manchester United but could make an impact. When Current coach, Louis Van Gaal took over, he was snubbed before being sent to Standard Liege on loan.

The 34-year old Spanish player played 530 games for the Catalan giant which also picked up the UEFA Champions league last year. He has prosecuted eight games for Standard Liege since joining in January on loan. Since joining the Belgian club team, he is easily one of the key players. He helped Standard Liege win the Belgian cup – Beker Van Belgie, playing against Club Brugge on March 20 in a keenly contested game that ended 2-1.

Before leaving Manchester united, it was reported in the media that the goal keeper had a little face-off with the team’s handler. Since moving out on loan, the player has gradually found his rhythm.

The player told his agent that he wants a new club as against continuing with Standard Liege or returning to The Red Devils. He told the agent of his preference for English Premier League sides where he can get action at the team.

The goal keeper has an impressive record. Only one player in history, Clarence Seedorf, has won the Champions League more often times than the player. Also, just 20 more players have been in more UEFA Champions League games when considering the history of the tournament.
