NOT JUST EL CLASICO

Barcelona will be facing the leaders of the Spanish league Real Madrid at the Camp Nou in a match that will be present in between the two Champions League semifinals.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have Champions League commitments, which has prompted many to suggest that both clubs will be resting players for this match. Both have similar champions league odds, though Real Madrid have the tougher draw in Bayern Munich.

In keeping with the rumours, Victor Valdes has also said that the destination of the title will not be decided by the El Clasico alone. Barcelona could reduce the deficit at the top of the table to just one point if they yet again win against Real Madrid this season. Barcelona have been extremely successful in all the El Clasicos over the last three seasons. It is expected to continue once again, which will hand a major advantage to Barcelona.

It was not long ago that Real Madrid enjoyed a 10 point advantage at the top of the table, which could have been possibly extended to 13 points. However, since then Real Madrid have suffered a dent in confidence, while the opposite has happened with Barcelona.

“The Clasico will be very important, but not decisive. Even if we win, we will still not depend on ourselves to win the league. The week we have ahead is one of those which give this job a meaning,” Valdes noted ahead of the match.

Barcelona will be having less recovery time for the El Clasico this time around, as they will be playing on Wednesday-Tuesday as opposed to Real Madrid, who will be playing Tuesday-Wednesday. Real Madrid will be facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals, while Barcelona will once again renew their rivalries with English club Chelsea.
