Valdes is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury that he suffered last season. It saw him fail to bid proper goodbyes to Barcelona after being carried on a stretcher in his final appearance for the club. The injury appears to have put his move to a new club in jeopardy.

Monaco recently conducted a medical for Valdes, but he appears to have failed it. As a result, the club’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has confirmed that the 32-year-old will not be joining the French runners-up. After spending huge amounts of money last summer, the club managed to finish in the second place behind Paris St Germain. This led to Claudio Ranieri losing his job. Leonardo Jardim was appointed as his replacement and he expressed concerns about the fitness of Valdes back in March. Even though Valdes has failed to secure this high-profile move, he is unlikely to run out of options.
As one of the top goalkeepers the world, he will look to return to full fitness in a few months before trying to negotiate contracts with new clubs. “Victor Valdes is injured and won’t join us,” said Vasilyev. He also confirmed that the club are planning to put their faith in current number one Danijel Subasic. Since joining the club in 2012, the 29-year-old has featured in close to 100 league matches. Last season, he made 35 appearances in all competitions. The Croatian international has been with the team during their troubled times in the French second division.
